We strive to make the search process results-oriented and enjoyable. After gaining a comprehensive understanding of your organization’s needs and the key attributes of your ideal candidate, we create a customized profile and sourcing strategy. We then compile a tailor-made plan to match your organization’s dynamic ensuring that the position’s required skills and experience are met.
Our research team takes the search criteria and begins the search, making sure all key components are checked off. The research team actively seeks exceptional candidates through extensive research in our own internal and external database, and networking through multiple sources. Next, our Executive Search Consultants begin the recruiting process. They usually speak with 80 to 150 or more potential candidates that have been targeted. After initial screening, candidates are appraised by our consultants. We speak with you regularly to weigh qualified emerging candidates.
Once a strong slate of candidates has been constructed, we facilitate initial assessments and interviews with each candidate. We coordinate, compile interview materials, and prepare candidates. After each round of interviews, we debrief you and the candidate to evaluate qualifications, fit, impressions and level of interest to select a finalist.
Once a finalist is identified, we work with you and the candidate to remove obstacles, assist in the negotiation process, and work toward offer acceptance and start date. After an offer is accepted, we continue to work with you and your new placement to ensure a successful transition.
Once a start date has occurred, we follow up with you and your new team member, to make sure that all expectations are met and a smooth transition is taking place. We continue to follow-up on a periodic basis; as we value our ongoing partnership with you.

At Matthews & Stephens Associates we offer our clients three basic search agreement options; a Contingency, an Exclusive, and a Retained agreement. We pride ourselves on our flexibility and our ability to tailor our agreements, providing a customized strategic partnership to suit each client’s unique situation.
Our basic search agreement which allows you to use other resources in your search such as your own internal means or other search firms. Our service charge is a percentage based on the first year’s total compensation or reasonable estimate thereof, including bonuses and incentives.
We are the exclusive agent and are fully partnered with you; this is the preferred method of the clients we work with on a regular basis. We completely coordinate all aspects of the search so your time can be focused on interviewing the qualified finalists that we present to you. As with the Contingency Search Agreement, our fee is also a percentage of the first year’s total compensation or reasonable estimate thereof, including bonuses and incentives. Since we are fully partnered with you, the fee percentage is lower than in that of the Contingency Agreement. A non-refundable engagement fee is charged at the time the agreement is executed, which is deducted from the invoiced total at the completion of the search.

This has the same benefits as the Exclusive Agreement. Our fee for the retained search is 1/3 of the total first year’s compensation upon retaining the search, 1/3 after a set number of candidates have been interviewed (typically 3-5), and 1/3 at the completion of the successful search.
